One of the most meaningful moments of Cottage Hill Revitalization Community Day was the presentation of the Roller Nation Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award to William "Whiz" Husic.
Just weeks before his passing, Whiz was recognized for a lifetime of dedication to his family, his community, and the values that have long defined Steelton. At 97 years old, he represented a generation whose hard work, sacrifice, and commitment helped shape the community and create opportunities for those who followed.
Throughout his life, Whiz embodied the pride, resilience, and neighbor-helping-neighbor spirit that built Steelton. He believed in the importance of community, supported the people around him, and never lost faith in the town he called home.
His recognition served as more than an individual honor. It was also a tribute to the countless parents, grandparents, mentors, coaches, teachers, and community members whose sacrifices helped future generations pursue greater opportunities and achieve their dreams.
As the Steelton Community Revitalization Project and Roller Nation Foundation work to invest in the next generation, Whiz's legacy serves as a reminder of what is possible when individuals dedicate themselves to something larger than themselves. His life reflected the very ideals that continue to guide these efforts: community pride, service, perseverance, and an unwavering belief in the future.
While he will be deeply missed, his example will continue to inspire those working to build a stronger future for Steelton and the generations that follow.
